Porchlight — Privacy Note

Short version: Porchlight Slideshow and Porchlight Player work entirely on your own computer. They don't collect, send or store anything about you or your slideshows. The only thing that happens on its own is Porchlight Slideshow checking for a newer version.

What stays on your computer

Your photos, music and slideshows. The apps read the files you choose and write the slideshow folder, copies you publish, and videos you export, where you tell them to. Nothing is uploaded.
Where a photo was taken. When a photo records its location, the Designer names the place ("Portland, Oregon") using a list of towns built into the app, so the location is never looked up online.
Dates and other details in your photos are read on your computer only.
Your list of recent slideshows and small preview images are kept in the app's own folder on your computer, so the app opens quickly.

When something goes over the internet

Automatically, one thing: checking for updates. When Porchlight Slideshow opens, it asks github.com (where we publish releases) whether there's a newer version. That shares your computer's IP address and the version you have with GitHub, under GitHub's privacy policy, and nothing else: nothing about you, your photos or your slideshows. If there is a newer version, the app offers it and you choose whether to install it. Each update is signed by us, and the app refuses one that isn't. Porchlight Player never checks for updates.

Everything else, only when you ask for it:

The map beside a photo. When you open a photo that records where it was taken (with the full version, while online), a small Google map of the area is shown beside it. Showing it sends the photo's location to Google, under Google's privacy policy. Nothing else about the photo is sent. Its Open in Maps button opens Google Maps in your web browser.
Links in the app (for example in the YAML Guide) open in your web browser.
[When added] Buying a license. Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which receives your name, email and payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive your name, email and order details, to send and support your license. The license key is checked on your computer; the app doesn't contact us to check it.

No tracking

The apps contain no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash reporting, and don't need an account.
